Bacteria - form & arrangement
Form refers to the shape of the bacteria, while arrangement refers to how the bacteria are arranged spatially. There are three different forms of bacteria - coccus (shaped like a sphere), bacillus (shaped like a rod), and spirillum (shaped like a curved rod). There are also 3 different types of siprillum: vibrio, spirillum, and spirochete.
For arrangement, bacillus are usually solo (on their own), but they can be in pairs of arranged in a chain. Spirillum are mostly solo, in a single arrangement. Coccus are found in 6 different arrangement. There is coccus, which refers to a single coccus. Then there is diplococcus, which refers to a pair. Also streptococcus which is a chain of coccus bacteria. Coccus can also be arranged in a group of 4 known as tetrad. It can also be arranged in a cluster, which is known as staphylococcus. Finally, sarcina, which is the coccus bacteria arranged in a cube of four coccus bacteria.
